Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a website that hosts videos and commentaries looking at the portrayals of gender roles in pop culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a media critic, blogger and award-winning feminist for nearly a decade. Feminist Frequency examines the way women are represented in the pop culture. Dispelling stereotypes of women is her primary goals. However, Sarkeesian also explores the issue of specifically targeted harassment online against women and other minorities who have been left out. Sarkeesian is a graduate in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has given talks at TEDxWomenXOXO as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. While a student at university she became fascinated by the issue of gender identity and women's rights at an early stage. The ambitious lady planned to start a web-based series examining gender representation in video games. She found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it was a boost to her determination as a feminist critic of media. In recognition of the many contributions she has made to feminist movements, she has been recognized with numerous awards.
